In May 1940, #5 Pl where he is shown would have been the Pioneer Pl within Hq Coy. It was later renumbered as #6 Pl under Support Coy.

Here is a bit more information on the Pioneer Platoon in a Cdn Infantry Battalions during ww2. Again, I’m not saying he was part of that platoon, just my “best guess” from the information I’ve seen to date on him

You can see the Pioneer Platoon was part of ‘Support Company’ and was organized into 3 Sections (2 Assault Sections and 1 Pioneer Section). These sections were most likely very small, probably 6 men in each section, then a Platoon HQ’s of 1 Officer and 2 OR’s (probably a Platoon Sgt and a radioman). I would also suggest that the “tradesmen” were part of the Pioneer Section

This is amazing, I never would have known this without you. I had always assumed that a Carpenter wouldn't have saw front line battle but I was so wrong. This is helping me paint a picture for what his life was like, as I never got to meet him, he passed before I was born.

Also, thank you for your e-mail. May be terrible of me but I kind of laughed, I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't that. I did more research using Google News using the headline that you provided and was able to come up with another article directly related to that, as well as a full-circle karma article to follow that about 5 years later.
If you're curious I will send you copies of what I found when I respond to your e-mail this evening.

Much apprecaited for everything, you have been very kind! Thank you for welcoming me to the form, I think I'll stay a while and see if I can help others in the future.
