As Phil has just posted a photo from South Africa, I thought I would also post up an item that I have.
This is a "swagger stick" (or we would probably call it a "pace stick" today) from 1861, Montreal Light Infantry. It was used by my Father in Law, when he was the Parade Marshall for Royal Canadian Legion contingents at our local Remembrance Day Ceremonies. I do not know how he came to having this swagger stick, but he used it each Remembrance Day until he passed away.
Also, I've attached a copy of the Regulations of the Montreal Light Infantry, 1857 for interest
