Re: Canadian Highlanders Second World War.
You can find the list of regiments here and have a look through their history,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian- ... h_regiment
I would think most of them fought in WW2.
The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada
The Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada
The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regiment)
Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders
The Nova Scotia Highlanders
The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa (Duke of Edinburgh's Own)
The Essex and Kent Scottish
48th Highlanders of Canada
The Cape Breton Highlanders
The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise's)
The Lake Superior Scottish Regiment
Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada
The Calgary Highlanders
The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada
The Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's)
The Toronto Scottish Regiment (Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother's Own)

Re: Canadian Highlanders Second World War.
Alain, just to confirm, his records tell you that he was posted to the Black Watch?? Also, it is strange that his records do not give you the information. Can you post up his records so we can review them for you…….or if you wish privacy, you could share them with me by e-mail. Send my a PM on this site and I can share my e-mail with you.D82411RHR wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 2:59 pmHI!

Re: Canadian Highlanders Second World War.
Hi,
Finally it worked
A you can see from July 7 1944 to March 27 1945 no entry???
And I received this email from the Black Watch Regiment in Montreal
Alain:
The only records I have access to, are the Unit’s Part II Orders and
they do not document in which company the soldiers are in.
According to those Orders your father landed in France with the Black
Watch on 6 July 1944 and served continuously until 27 March 1945 when he
was hospitalized as sick. He returned to the battalion on 5 June 1945.
On 27 July 1945 he transferred to England to begin the process of
returning to Canada.
Because there is nothing in his file between 7 July 1944 and 27 March
1945 means that he was with the Black Watch continuously during some of
the toughest fighting where hundreds of Black Watch were killed and
almost two thousand wounded. Your father was one of the few lucky ones
who managed to survive that period without injury.
O’Keefe book leads up to 25 July on which the Black Watch suffered the
highest single day of casualties, more than three hundred killed,
wounded and taken prisoner. On 13 October known as Black Friday to the
Black Watch they lost over two hundred killed, wounded and taken
prisoner.
Those two days accounted for about 12 percent of the Black Watch’s total
was casualties. I think your father was a very lucky man.
I’m sorry I could not provide information about the company in which
your father served.
