I have a few questions on RCAF 406 Squadron, just in case some one might have the answers
1) Beaufighter, V8717, October 18, 1943
Pilot: Flt Lt G.S.R. Richards, J/7425, RCAF, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Aircraft broke up in air on ferry flight half-a-mile North of Ty Croes, Anglesey, Wales
Does anyone know who and if there was a second person on this aircraft, I am guessing that they survived as not listed on CWGC, or pilot was solo !
2) Beaufighter, X7921, February 14, 1943
Pilot: Flt Sgt H.O.B. Payne, R/110155, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Wop/Obs: Sgt D.F.E. Jenner, 1420675, RAFVR, Ffynone, Swansea, England
Passenger: LAC E. Smith, 993113, RAF, Walney Island, Cumbria, England
Can not find out what happened to this aircraft, Does anyone know ??? Just found this, but it still does not say a lot,
"Aircraft crashed near Wornford Corner, Hampshire, England while on night flying practice"
3) CWGC says that Flt Sgt Wilbur James Wilson, R/51587, RCAF, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. December 27, 1942 Belonged to RCAF 406 Sqdn, However, when researching the warrior, I found that he was killed in a RAF 179 Sqdn, Wellington, HX638. Any ideas ???
4) While I am on the "What" questions, I have found an individual, Navigator: F/O Robert John Sloan, J/147268, RCAF, Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. July 16, 1945, CWGC has him listed, but other than that I can not find anything on or about him, can't even get him on the CVWM site
5) And last, ( Well, for this squadron
) If possible as he is R.A.F., March 16, 1942, Cpl George Grant, 1744, RAF, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Any idea on the story of this Fallen Warrior ???? Again, showing RCAF 406 Squadron in CWGC
As always, truly appreciate any help and assistance on this, eyes have gone cross eyed

LOL

He was alone on the flight

George Grant, was RCAF. At the top of his “death records” it says “Suicide”. I can’t see any further info on his death, except the usual “list of clothing and equipment” on death.
“They Shall Not Grow Old says that he died “in service” while with 406 Squadron, not “how he died”

Here’s his original attestation papers. Note that he was actually part of Canada’s “Permanent” Air Force......hence the “low” service number. He joined in 1929

Found this record, note it says he died of “coal gas poisoning” and also says “Suicide”

Many, Many thanks for the info Temujin, WOW was not expecting the outcome on Cpl G. Grant, I guess it was that I am used to seeing R, J, or C in front of the RCAF Service number that I thought he was R.A.F. learning some thing new, Thanks again for the info !
