It is known that on this day (a Sunday), the Metropole Hotel at Bournemouth was attacked by twenty Fw-190s of Schnellkampfgeschwader SKG10. 22 Commonwealth airmen, and approx. 110 civilians, killed by ground fire during a Luftwaffe bombing raid on 23 May 1943 against the Metropole Hotel in Lansdowne Square, Bournemouth, Dorset, England. The air attack destroyed 22 buildings and damaged over 3000 in central Bournemouth. The total number of victims is thought to have been 131, though estimates varied between 70 and 200
