Unknown Signal Corps Soldier
Re: Unknown Signal Corps Soldier
OK, worn out on this one.
The Ralph Holmes I found above, his father Alfred B Holmes WAS born in England. But haven’t been able to pin down if ADA was a relative.
Need a break on this, will try again tomorrow with fresh eyes and thoughts.
Cheers

Re: Unknown Signal Corps Soldier
Great work, hopefully they can connect one of these. I'd hold off on more until Dave can check his records against these two.

Re: Unknown Signal Corps Soldier
Thought I’d post up info that I had found Phil, this is info on Ada Holmes and David Hatchard. I copied this in order to see if I could find a connection to Ralph Holmes (or Ralph P Holmes) but I haven’t found anything yet. The family probably has all this, but just posting it to ensure the possible connections (or not) are all accounted for
And the info below is Alfred B Holmes, father of Ralph Holmes, and the last two files show Ralph’s connection to Alfred B Holmes. Ralphs full name was Ralph Parnell Holmes
And in this record, you can see that Alfred B Holmes was born in England
I’ll hold off on any further research until you hear back from the family if were on the right track.....or nothing I’ve found to date matches
The “problem” is that the photo may NOT be a relative at all.......then were back to trying to put the round peg into a square hole

Re: Unknown Signal Corps Soldier
Yeah, for sure, we may get lucky, but there's a fair chance we may never know. Worth a cursory check I thought, and you've done more than that!

Re: Unknown Signal Corps Soldier
As you said, we tried. Added a few more documents to my post above. They show that Ralph Parnell Holmes worked for Train company, as a telegraphic’s position........which makes sense that he would join the Army and be in a “Signal’s Unit”

Re: Unknown Signal Corps Soldier
I have a few names of my grandads brothers who may be possible candidates, John Hatchard was my great grandad and married Mary Ann Nineham in 1868 in Church Knowle Dorset. they had 1869 George,1870 James, 1872 Sarah Ann,1874 Elizabeth, 1876 Mary Ann(died aged 9 months), 1878 Ada, 1880 John, 1881 William, 1884 Harry(died 1 month old), 1885 Charles Nineham or Hatchard, By shortly after Johns wife dies aged 38 or so and he later marries Anne Diffey Guy in 1897, they had 1898 Stanford Cecil, 1900 David (my grandad), lastly 1905 Harold Arthur(one of the Purbeck secret seven ww2), I hope this helps, but the chap in the photo may still be a Holmes on my grans side originaly from Walthamstow moved to Canada.
Another surname for his wife is listed here.

Re: Unknown Signal Corps Soldier
What about all the other info we have shared with him.......is ANY a match, or could be?? I’d rather discount the info, before I move on with other search’s or if “some” of it may be valid.....what is valid so we can look further into the name.
I’ve given you info on a “Hatchard” and a “Holmes”? Anything?
Cheers

Phil, I’ve built a family tree (in order to figure out “who’s who” in this family)......what I need is more info on the Holmes side of his family, especially names and info on people on the Holmes side who moved to Canada......Phil wrote: ↑Sun Nov 25, 2018 7:19 pmI have a few names of my grandads brothers who may be possible candidates, John Hatchard was my great grandad and married Mary Ann Nineham in 1868 in Church Knowle Dorset. they had 1869 George,1870 James, 1872 Sarah Ann,1874 Elizabeth, 1876 Mary Ann(died aged 9 months), 1878 Ada, 1880 John, 1881 William, 1884 Harry(died 1 month old), 1885 Charles Nineham or Hatchard, By shortly after Johns wife dies aged 38 or so and he later marries Anne Diffey Guy in 1897, they had 1898 Stanford Cecil, 1900 David (my grandad), lastly 1905 Harold Arthur(one of the Purbeck secret seven ww2), I hope this helps, but the chap in the photo may still be a Holmes on my grans side originaly from Walthamstow moved to Canada.Another surname for his wife is listed here.

They say that they have not found a link to the Holmes or Hatchard that you've found, yet, they're still looking.Temujin wrote: ↑Mon Nov 26, 2018 8:11 pmPhil, I’ve built a family tree (in order to figure out “who’s who” in this family)......what I need is more info on the Holmes side of his family, especially names and info on people on the Holmes side who moved to Canada......
