Bristol Beaufighter

Post by georgetanksherman » Mon Nov 05, 2018 6:30 pm

I am not good at posting pictures, so I will just post the web page. while researching Canadian Squadrons, I came across this, what I call an unusual photo of a Bristol Beaufighter, which appears to have an upper turret. This is a new one on me, and just was wondering if this is/was a one off version, if any one knows, this is the one and only that I have come acrosswould love to find out. It's on the WW II Forum, third picture down, The web page is:

Beaufighter Mk V
the Vs had a Boulton Paul turret with four 0.303 in (7.7 mm) machine guns mounted aft of the cockpit supplanting one pair of cannons and the wing-mounted machine guns. Only two (Merlin-engined) Mk Vs were built. When tested by the A&AEE, R2274 was capable of 302 mph at 19,000 ft.

Hey Temujin, Thanks for posting the picture, also "Thank You" as always for posting the info, I originally thought it was a wind up, but then there were a bunch of One-off's to see how they would work, so I thought I would ask if anyone knew anything about it ! Might have been a nice surprise for an attacking enemy aircraft that was not paying attention !

Cheers

George
