R.C.A.F. No. 415 Squadron, Handley Page Hampden AT135, August 18, 1943

Aircraft based at RAF Thorney Island, Hampshire had an engine fall off while on an Anti-Submarine patrol crashed into the sea 8 miles W of the Isles of Scilly, United Kingdom. The aircraft was a total loss but the crew of four were rescued

R.C.A.F. No. 415 Squadron, Handley Page Hampden, AT240 GX-D, June 4. 1942

Aircraft flying anti-shipping patrol failed to return from mission, search and rescue was started, a week later the pilot, P/O F.H Mahn was found, alone in a life raft, the other 3 flight crew were never found.

Crew:
Pilot, P/O F.H Mahn, Survived, rescued from a life raft, Denver, Colorado, U.S.A.
Observer, F/Sgt J.W. Stirling, RCAF, R/67851, M.I.A., drank sea water, died the next day, committed to the sea, Home town not known
WO/AG, Sgt W. Peebles, RCAF, R/60374, M.I.A., Went down with the aircraft, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
WO/AG, Sgt E. Thomas, RCAF, R/70743, M.I.A., died ninth day in raft, committed to the sea, Qu'Appelle , Saskatchewan, Canada

Note:
P/O F.H Mahn, had to have both legs below the knees amputated after being rescued, he died March 5, 1946 after an illness
