Royal Canadian Navy First World War personnel lists
Re: Royal Canadian Navy First World War personnel lists
What type of lists are you look for Rory? Ships crews? Or just a general list on “who was in the navy” on a specific date.
Their are lists of “Officers” in the Navy in WW2 but I’m not sure on WW1.......so let me take a look and see what I can find.
Below is a couple of examples of the types of list available for WW2, showing Officers serving in Ships and Shore establishments

LAC holds the service files of Sailors
This research tool provides access to 16,788 references to many individuals who served in the Royal Canadian Navy and the Naval Reserve between 1910 and 1918. It also includes some records for those who enlisted between 1919 and 1941. It also includes a few references to the Newfoundland Royal Naval Reserve. The information was extracted from the Navy Service Ledger Sheets.
It does not include all naval personnel. It is not known why there are no ledger sheets for some individuals.

During the war, the Naval Service would recruit over 9000 officers and ratings, broken down as follows:
RCN- 1,000
RN and RNR- 600
RCNVR:
Atlantic Subdivision - 4,300
Pacific Subdivision - 2,000
Overseas Division - 1,700
Total: 9,600

Re: Royal Canadian Navy First World War personnel lists
By the start of the First World War in 1914, 379 men had joined the Royal Canadian Navy.
My aunt's father joined in 1911, so the list of the above mentioned group.
