Letter K instead of number
Hello everyone.
Im wondering if anyone could shed light on an item from a Great Uncles service records ( Regiment Number 652270) from World War 1. The letter K was inserted instead of a number in his date. What is shown is 28-K-19. I also found this reference in the War diary for the 3rd reserve Battalion of which he was part of. It says on the 28th of Jan.1919 Draft of K-42 40 OR's were being sent to Kinmel Park for return back to Canada.
I was wondering if it meant he was being sent to Kinmel Park of which i believe he did. I did find the "Part ll Daily Orders and you can see his Regimental number but his name had been dashed out.
Thanks again for any info.
I'll send the items in question.

I can’t help you with the “K”, I’ve never seen this on a military record of WW1
I download his file, and has a lot of information, note he was transferred to the 2nd CMR (Canadian Mounted Rifles) and was wounded while with them. His records also contain other wounds he received.
If you would like specific information on his records, let me know and I can try and decipher them for you. As I mentioned I have downloaded his records.
I’m not sure if you have seen this reference material on the 160th Cdn Infantry Battalion. The records below contain a LOT (pages) of photo’s and records of the 160th Cdn Infantry Battalion

War Diaries of the 2nd CMR for Sept 1918, a few screen shots of action on the 29 Sept 1918, day he was wounded

It may just be a typo. At that time typewriters had no dedicated "1" key, typists would have to use "l", or potentially "i". You can see from this image of a typewriter from 1919 that both the "l" and "i" are adjacent to the "k", making a typo plausible.Interestednephew wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 2:41 pmThe letter K was inserted instead of a number in his date. Brilliant Phil……..I learned something new today and have to remember that when looking at WW1 (K) documents. And you explanation makes total sense.
The second document, I believe is not a typo, but the letter K, as he was proceeding from Kimmel Park to Canada, so the K may have meant any draft from Kimmel Park…….to confirm this I would have to seen the numbers of other drafts proceeding from Kimmel Park if they also use the letter K as part of their Draft Numbers
Cheers

Hey thanks Phil for the insight. I never thought of the typo with typewriter before. But being that the War Diary also showed a K in its remarks for drafts of men leaving for Kinmel Park, i think it does mean that they were on their way to Kinmel Park and this was thier way of saying it. I havent found anything to say differently yet. Thanks again guys.

Re: Letter K instead of number
Another item that i am perplexed about is a service form entry. It shows my soldier as being part of the 12th Reserve and being TOS at a "Camp or Company" in the MD#1 District . It shows that ( if im reading this right) he could have been at the RHYL Camp which i understand to have been part of the Kimmel Park area in North Wales. What i dont know is that this is the only mention of him being part of the 12 Reserve? Nothing else on his records show him as being assigned to the 12 Reserve? The other item im not sure about is the name of the camp or company he was in? I was wondering if it was the "Casualty company" since he had been injured.
Ive sent the enty so you can see what I mean.
