P/O J.K. Hoover, C.E. Manning, RCAF / USAAF

Post by georgetanksherman » Sun Jul 12, 2020 6:05 pm

Trying to see if I can find the info on James K. Hoover. from Batesville, Arkansas, U.S.A., Joined R.C.A.F. November 1, 1941, went through training, shipped to England November 5, 1942, assigned to an unknown R.A.F. Squadron. Transferred to USAAF to 409th BS, 93rd BG, 8th AF. on November 13, 1944, flying in B-24 - 41-24298 "Queenie" on mission to Bremen, Germany, he was Killed in Action when his aircraft was attacked and damaged by Bf-109's causing it to crash into the North Sea with all crew lives lost.

Also Cecil E. Manning, from Eudora, Arkansas, U.S.A., Joined the R.C.A.F. in July 1941, was shipped to the U.K., but squadron is unknown, he did transfer to USAAF and Assigned to 335FS, 4FG, 8AF USAAF. So maybe RAF No. 121, but I can not find him in the Eagle Squadron list. Shot down in P-51B 43-6887 Leeuwarden, Holland. Capt Manning captured POW. 6 March 1944 – 1945. Died November 23, 2006, Lake Providence, Louisiana

Does anyone have any info on these Warriors while they were in the R.C.A.F. ?????

Cheers
George

George, issue is since neither man was “killed” during the war, his records would need to be ordered from Library and Archives Canada.

On Cecil E Manning above, I’ve found a “little” info, but mostly for his US service

That would be me :-)

Greetings BabyBoy and Welcome to the site, First let me say Thank You to you and your family for your dad's involvement in WW II, for the last several years I have been researching Americans that went to Canada and joined the Commonwealth Forces prior to the U.S. Joining in. Half of those number transferred to the U.S. Forces once the U.S. joined in, Your father was one of those Warriors that transferred, sadly, I have the info after his transfer to USAAF, but cannot find any of his RCAF info, Squadron and such, not sure of his date of transfer, so he might have transferred right when he got to England, and may not have been assigned to an RAF/RCAF Squadron, so I thought I would ask the guys on here for any info, I have been using and abusing the Great People on this site when and if they could help me along the way. You will find that there are some Awesome and Informative folks here.

All the best

Thanks for the E-Mail Temujin !

George

As far as I know, my Dad (Cecil Manning) was only with OTUs while with the RCAF in the ETO. Per his logbook, he commenced flying at #59 OTU Milfield on January 2, 1943 and then again January 12, 1943 at #55 OTU Annan; flying Hurricanes. Transferred to U.S.A.C. March 23, 1943
