Douglas Graham Garner

Posting an inquiry on behalf of Kathy, a visitor to the site. She will be following along.
I just found your great website. Unfortunately, I cannot find my late father's name listed in the 65th Tank Transporter Company names. Is there an error of omission or perhaps a page missing? I'm not sure. I have all his documentation.

His name was Douglas Graham Garner born 1923 in Queen Charlotte Islands, B.C., Canada

Kathy, the nominal role that is posted is for the Unit when it went oversea’s in Apr 1942. Is it possible your grandfather joined the unit AFTER they went oversea’s??

His Service Number indicates in joined in British Columbia, and he “originally” joined the Westminster Regt (MG)........in must have transferred to the RCASC later in his military career.

Thank you for posting the pictures of my dad, Douglas G. Garner. They could be from my Ancestry site but I'm happy they're available.

I remember dad telling me that he signed up for the army at a place in White Rock, B.C. though I've no evidence of that and the New Westminster information is new to me. That said, I find it odd that he isn't on the list of names of the 65th Tank Transporter Company. It's a small mystery. I do, however, have a formal photo of all of the soldiers of the 65th Tank Transport and think that it could have been taken in Borden, Sask. My dad is in the photo. Also, I have all his army ephemera for reference which I could refer to should anyone be interested.

I would be glad to share the photo so others could possibly find an image their loved one. However, I'm not sure how to go about that. Perhaps someone could tell me. Thanks.

I'm a family historian and have only recently been digging into my dad's army days. It's a never ending hobby for me though a bit confusing and at times frustrating. Ugh.

Dolly,

Welcome to the forum. It is always a pleasure to see Veterans relatives joining and wishing to share their information and images.

To post an image, one needs to post it to a site which allows the sharing of images, I use https://postimages.org/, which is free, once posted to the sharing site, one needs to copy the "Hotlink for forums" link. Then just paste the link into your post and click Submit.

If you have any issues, or I have made the instructions as clear as mud, please contact me.

Hi Dolly, just to add to BFBSM above........if you wish, you can order his military records from Library and Archives Canada. Click on the link below and it will take you to the site that explains how you do this.

BUT, be aware it can take a LOOONNNGGG Time, over a YEAR. My own father in law took over a year to get......but it is worth it.

https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/transpare ... files.aspx

If you need help with the paperwork, let us know, we can help with that. They will need “proof” of his death, but they will accept an obit from the paper, or the “Last Post, Royal Canadian Legion”.......the record I posted above is from the LAST POST......i can tell you how to get that also.....or just copy and use the one above

AFTER, you get his records, come back to us and we can help you “decipher them”......as they are written in “military speak”......all acronyms etc which we can help you with

Cheers and welcome to the website
