Question, O. Langevin, 425 Sqdn

Post by georgetanksherman » Sun Dec 06, 2020 8:24 pm

While going through Aircrew Remembered there was a mention of O. Langevin RCAF 425 Sqdn, from USA, but no other info, been looking all over, can not find an O. Langevin, but there is a G. Langevin, RCAF, No. 425 Squadron flying in Halifax PN173 that was shot down on March 5, 1945 and became a P.O.W., can not find where he is from, but is it possible that the "O" was mistaken for the "G" ?????

Just thought I would ask, in case someone might know

Cheers
George

George, in the book “They Shall Not Grow Old”, their is only ONE “Langevin’ who died who was in the RCAF

CPL Joseph Arlene Adelard Langevin, killed 15 July 1942. #4 Service Flying Training School. Cessna Crane crashed. He was from Grand Mere PQ

But let me look further, as the Langevin you mention may be RAF or other Commonwealth country

OOOOPs, didn’t see you said he was a POW.....I check that first

Follow up: There is NO “Langevin” on the RCAF POW List......I”ll keep checking

Here’s a crew list for Jan 45

You maybe can see the reason why the discrepancy........He has 3 Initials (which is very typical of French Canadian’s).......in fact you can see the whole crew is French Canadian’s

His name was GLJ Langevin

Found the record for that day 4/5 March 1945.......same initials....BUT you have to look closely, you can barely see that the first letter is a G

OK, found his record when he went missing.......You can see his “real name” in this record. The rest of his crew are also in this record. He “probably” went by his last Forename of “Guy”

Appreciate the heads up on that Temujin, thought something was not right when it kept sending me to "G" Langevin instead of "O" Langevin, not sure why Aircrew Remembered are saying USA, when it does not even look like he is from there or received a U.S. Medal ! But Thanks as always for clearing that one up !!!!

Cheers
George
