Ernest Moores, from Verdun, Quebec, was the man listed as missing in the newspaper. He was originally from Freshwater, Newfoundland, and a bit of his story is posted here: https://www.freshwater-carbonear.com/did-you-know/

"Three young men from Freshwater Silas Jeffers, Ernest Moores and Samuel Moores were at the Battle of the Somme in France on July 1st, 1916.

"Silas Jeffers a member of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, raced across No Man’s Land and was killed in the battle of Beaumont Hamel, known today as the July Drive. 753 Newfoundlanders went over the top and when the battle was over only 68 answered roll call. His memorial can be found in the old cemetery in Freshwater.

"Ernest Moores, serving with the Canadian Scotch Regiment, was wounded, but recovered to return to the front lines.

"Samuel Moores, serving with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment was wounded during the battle for Beaumont Hamel on July 1st, 1916 . He recovered in a hospital in England and was thrown back into the hell of the Somme in October, 1916 and was killed in action on October 12th, 1916. His remains were never found but his memorial is in the old cemetery in Freshwater."

Thank you for posting the No 45 General Transport Company, RCASC - Nominal Roll. My father was Private V.A. Moores (later Corporal) and I was happy to also see the name of his best buddy, J. McKenna. I had thought that my father was with No. 47 General Transport Company, RCASC. I don't know if that was incorrect information, or if he was later transferred to No. 47. I have several pictures of him and his unit. Would it be appropriate to post them here?
Was the Victor A Moores in your post above:

Victor Ambrose Moores
1920–1999
BIRTH 21 AUG 1920 • Montreal, Quebec, Canada
DEATH 12 OCT 1999 • Burlington, Ontario, Canada

And reviewing their Service Numbers, John Mckenna joined first in Military District 4 (Western Quebec).....his number D126563 tells us he joined the RCASC (Reinforcements)..........Victor A Moores joined later in Military District 4 (Western Quebec).....his number D126720 also tells us he joined the RCASC (Reinforcements).

If you wish, you could order his military records at LAC, if you have not already done this.
Yes, Victor Ambrose Moores, 1920-1999, is my father. I just found Library and Archives Canada online, so I will order my father's records, and also my grandfather's records from WW1.
Just a note to you on ordering his records......be prepared to WAIT a LONG TIME......they say 6 to 9 months...BUT, I’ve been waiting almost 12 months for my own father in law’s WW2 records......I did contact LAC at 10 months....and they did confirm that my request is still being actioned, they just have so many requests (and the Federal Government cut LAC’s funding a few years ago...less staff) that it is taking longer.

Just so your aware that it will be a wait

Nothing definitive, but some notes from the old Armoured Acorn site:
https://web.archive.org/web/20160115010 ... acorn.com/
and his 'Canadian Vehicle Markings: Unit and Formation Markings of the Canadian Army 1939-1953 (Vol 1)'
I think these findings are snapshots in time, based on records from higher formations. For RCASC and other support units, organization and I guess markings varied. I'd be concerned some of the suggestions shown on the thread are plausible but could be a hybrid of different info from different times. AA's compilations, with potentially interesting Transport Coy units indicated. Maybe someone can see a pattern.

1 Cdn Corps 1942 - 63 General Transport Coy - 63 R/G diag (read 63 on Red over Green diagonal)

4 Cdn Amd Div Jan 44 - 45 General Transport Coy - 46 R/G diag
5 Cdn Amd Div Jan 44 - 47 General Transport Coy - 47 R/G diag
- for all five of these Div units, noted as 'Corps Increments'

1 Canadian Army May 45 - 41, 45, 47, 63, 64 Army Transport Coy - R/G diag (unclear if lack of numbers indicates gap in records (likely?) or no numbers actually worn)
1 Canadian Corps May 45 - 44 General Transport Coy - 54 R/G diag
2 Canadian Corps NWE 1945 - 2 Corps Transport Coy - 54 R/G diag (most interesting for the different name)

Canadian General HQ Troops - Oct 45 - 66 General Transport Coy - 1304 R/G diag
Canadian General HQ Troops - Oct 45 - 69 General Transport Coy - 1975 R/G diag
1 Canadian Army Oct 45 - 63 Army Transport Coy - 551 R/G diag
1 Canadian Army Oct 45 - 64 Army Transport Coy - 552 R/G diag

4 Cdn Amd Div Oct 45 - nil
5 Cdn Amd Div Oct 45 - nil
1 Canadian Corps Oct 45 - 1 Corps Transport Coy - 54 R/G diag

I see a solid colour on the photos on this thread, not a Red/Green diagonal, though it's admittedly difficult.

The white bar at the bottom of the sign indicates these were Army troops at the time.
