Need help, F/O K.E. Warner/Sgt H. Pendleton

Post by georgetanksherman » Tue Sep 11, 2018 11:58 am

While researching R.C.A.F. No. 409 Squadron, Came across these two who were killed in a Bristol Beaufighter on December 5, 1942.

F/O Kenneth Earle Warner, J/10238, RCAF, from Lexington, Oregon, U.S.A. and Flt Sgt Herbert Pendleton, 1398882, RAFVR, from Croydon, surrey, England.

I have found out that it was a Beaufighter, just can not find the Serial number and what happened to these two Fallen Warriors. Any help would truly be appreciated !

I have just searched AIR 81 Air Ministry: P4 (Cas) Files relating to casualties suffered during air operations and aircraft accidents 1939-194 at The National Archives UK (http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.u ... r/h/C16484), but the records are still accruing:
Series is accruing; currently (in May 2018) released for dates up to early April 1941
so it could be a while before the records are available there.

I looked on the CWGC and the CVWM sites for the info that I got, also found that they crashed in a Bristol Beaufighter on the 5th of December, 1942, what is now Poulton Country Park, used to be a coal mining dump area, but I just can't find the cause and serial # of the aircraft. appreciate any info that you might find !

Cheers

Looking now George. Did find in “They Shall Not Grow Old” this:

Beaufighter aircraft suffered an in-flight engine failure and crashed six miles north of Ganesfiled.

I’ll see if I can find the aircraft number

Thank You very much Temujin for the clarification on the aircraft and crew have two more individuals that I am having problems with,

F/sgt A.J. Matches R/80905, RCAF, and P/O B.A. Thornley, J/15066 RCAF, believe these two were in the same aircraft, they are listed as missing and mentioned on the Runnymede memorial, shows they are with the R.C.A.F. No. 409 squadron as well

And on a side question, it looks like there is some American connection with F/Sgt A.J. Matches. even though his parents are listed as being from Shallow Lake, Ontario, Canada. Any info on these two Fallen Warriors would be appreciated

Cheers

Your welcome, and I’ll look for this one. Again, “They Shall Not Grow Old” states

The crew of a Beaufighter aircraft were on operational patrol and whilst flying in low-cloud were shot down by a friendly Mosquito aircraft. The aircraft went down in the sea 21 miles east of North Coates, England

Wow, what a story, and this is just one of many, getting into the research of what happened to these warriors, I did not realize how many we lost due to accidents and malfunctions of the aircraft. Thank You Temujin for sharing all the info that you have shared. Lest We Forget ! Never forget !!!

Cheers
