Aircraft was shot down while attacking shipping in the English Channel, Flt. Sgt. Hagyard was not recovered and declared Missing in Action.

“Circus Morlaix” to escort 36 B-17’s on mission to bomb the airport at Morlaix, France. The weather forecast was inaccurate, winds were stronger causing aircraft to run out of petrol, F/O Hokan baled out of the aircraft south of Plymouth, he was never found

F/O C.G. Hutchings, RCAF, J/16294, Easton, Saskatchewan
Spitfire, NH404, September 29, 1944

While on patrol, pilot noticed a group of Typhoon’s being attacked, F/O Hutchings engaged the fight, and was shot down by a Bf-109 and crashed in the Nijmegen area. F/O Hutchings did not survive.

Non-Flying, July 31, 1943

While riding a motorcycle, he was involved in a head on collision with a motor vehicle while in the Redhill area, Flt. Lt. Ibbotson did not survive the accident.

Flt. Lt. T.P. Jarvis, RCAF, J/11056, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Spitfire, MJ662, July 31,1944

While on a Recon flight, flight lead spotted enemy aircraft, and ordered flight to engage, while in the fight Flt. Lt. Jarvis was shot down by a Fw-190 and crashed in the Lisieux, France.

Note: It was stated that the Fw-190 pilot that shot Flt. Lt. Jarvis down, flew low to check out the crash, and in doing so flew into a tree, killing the pilot.

While on a fighter sweep over norther Germany, aircraft was shot down by a Fw-190, crashed near Twente, Netherlands, Flt. Lt. Land did not survive

“Ramrod” Aircraft engine failed while returning from a bomber escort mission, aircraft crashed into the sea around Bradwell Bay, Flt. Lt. MacDonald did not survive.

Spitfire, BS391, November 8, 1942

“Circus 235” While escorting 38 B-17’s to bomb fives/Lille France, F/O Manley’s aircraft was shot down by a Fw-190 near Calais, France. F/O Manley did not survive

P/O N. Marshall, RCAF, J/85166, London, Ontario, Canada
Spitfire, MK902, June 7, 1944

Aircraft was shot down by enemy aircraft while flying top cover over the beach head during D-Day, aircraft crashed Banville-la-Compagne, P/O Marshall did not survive.

“Rodeo” It is believed that Flt. Sgt. Nickel experienced an oxygen Malfunction and blacked out causing aircraft to go into a spin and crashed near Ambleteuse, Pas-de-Calais, France. Flt. Sgt. Nickel did not survive.

P/O J.R. Patton Jr., RCAF, J/15106, Barrie, Ontario, Canada
Spitfire, AD134, May 1, 1942

“Circus 150” While on the way to St. Omar, France, the flight was jumped by enemy aircraft, P/O Pattons aircraft was shot down 5 miles out in the channel off Le Harve, France. P/O Patton was never found, listed as M.I.A.

“Circus 221” Flt. Sgt. Reesor’s aircraft was hit and shot down by a Fw-190 while over the Somme Estuary. Flt. Sgt. Reesor did not survive.

“Circus 204” While escorting B-17’s to bomb the rail road at Rouen/Sotteville, W/O Rowthorn’s aircraft was hit and damaged by a Fw-190, but was able to limp it back across the channel and crash landed near his airfield, unfortunately, 2 days later W/O Rowthorn died of his wounds

While on a fighter sweep over the Netherlands, the flight got into a fight with enemy Me-109’s. Flt. Sgt Sheehy’s aircraft got shot down and crashed near Enschede, Netherlands, Flt. Lt. Sheehy did not survive

Aircraft on fighter sweep over Dunkirk, France when the flight got into a fight with Me-109’s. P/O Smalls aircraft was shot down and crashed near Goodwin Sands, off the coast of Kent England. P/O Small did not survive.

“Circus 188” While escorting 24 Boston Bombers that were going to bomb Le Harve, France. The fighter escort was attacked by Me-109’s. P/O Smithers aircraft was shot down near Abbeville, France, P/O Smither did not survive.

Note: His brother, R. Smither was K.I.A. during the Battle of Britain with No. 1 Squadron, RCAF on September 15, 1940

Flt. Sgt. S.L. Thompson, RCAF, R/6155, Davidson, Saskatchewan, Canada
Spitfire, W3601, October 27, 1941

Aircraft on fighter sweep over Dunkirk, France when the flight got into a fight with Me-109’s. Flt. Sgt. Thompson Aircraft was damaged and made his way back to England, over Dover he attempted to bale out of the aircraft but was unsuccessful and was killed.

While on a “Rodeo” mission, the flight got into a fight with enemy aircraft P/O Tuckers aircraft received damage, and said he was going to try and make his way back to England, aircraft and pilot went missing.

Aircraft on fighter sweep over Dunkirk, France when the flight got into a fight with Me-109’s. It is presumed that P/O Wallace was shot down by a Me-109, but location and crash site of the aircraft or missing pilot is not known.

Flt. Lt. J. Whitham (DFC), RCAF, J/15281, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Spitfire IXb, BR628, August 28, 1942

Squadron detailed to fly Circus 210, escort 12 fortresses to bomb Meaute, France. The Squadron encountered enemy fighters and it is thought that Flt. Lt. Whitham was shot down and crashed near Amiens, France. Flt. Lt. Whitham did not survive the crash

Aircraft flying “Circus 144” over St. Omar, France during the afternoon, P/O Whitney’s aircraft was hit, while trying to crash land his aircraft back at Whitfield in Kent, England, the aircraft crashed killing the pilot

May all the Fallen Warriors be Honoured and Remembered, and may there families know that they are not Forgotten
