Flt. Lt. L. McMillan (DFC, AM), RCAF, J/10231, Miami, Manitoba, Canada
Spitfire PR XI, PM412, May 3, 1945

While flying the No. 2 man position on a shipping reconnaissance mission of the Danish Islands, a convoy of 4 ships were spotted, so the flight went down to investigate, as the aircraft passed on the port side they notice the ships flying the Nazi flags, 3 of which were carrying troops. On the second pass, flying at 50 feet, on the starboard side of the ships, Flt. Lt. McMillan's aircraft took a direct hit from one of the ships and exploded. Lead Pilot, Flt Lt. P.C. Wigle believes that Flt. Lt. McMillan was killed outright in the explosion.
