Yes, Holy Roller of 6 CAR, this is the tank we are trying to find all information on. Where it was loaded, which LCT, then the trek through Europe.

Cheers

I hope you don't mind my stepping in. I am working with CanadianTanker on this project.
The Holy Roller was the Regimental 2ICs (Maj Frank White) tank, it landed at approx 0820. The CO took over the tank for a while on D-Day as his lost a track on exiting the beach at exit M2. Maj White became CO of the Regt in Aug of 44 and served such til the end of the war. The Holy Roller did not survive unscathed. She lost her main gun to AT fire, and her suspension at least three times. The last time she lost both suspensions. She was about to go into the scrap heap at the end of the war, but the CO ordered the maintainers to repair her, and she came back to Canada in 1946.

I am also trying to find Berth info on the LCT (CB) that had two Sherman Fireflies on it.
They were Landing serial 1013, LCT(CB) 2041. I believe they were Group 312b.

I see by the info you have posted the 8 LCTS for 1H berthed at D Trot. Any idea where that is/ I have found Hambles, Cowes, Area 19, the locations for HMCS Algonquin etc. But have no idea where D Trots might, any help would be apprectiaed.

Thank you for the update. With this information, I think it would cut the choices down to TWO LCT’s. I’m quite sure that the CO and the 2 i/c would NOT have been aboard the same LCT, and we KNOW the CO was aboard LCT Serial 1107 (LCT 522).

This would mean that Holy Roller would have been on either LCT Serial 1106 or 1108. Let me check further and see if I have any info on Major White and which LCT he “may” have been on

You are correct, Serial 1013 was part of Group 312b. It LOADED at G4 Hards, I’ve posted a map of where these was in this thread. I’ll see if I can determine where D Trots was exactly

Follow up on this question. Reading the War Dairies of the 6 CAR, let me review the facts we know.

“C” Squadron and RHQ were loaded on LTIN Serials 1106, 1107 & 1108.

The CO was carried on LTIN Serial 1107 (LCT 522)

We KNOW that the CO and the 2i/c Major F. E White walked the beach on landing, checking out the beach exit points. We ALSO know that the OC “C” Squadron, Major A.D.A. Mark’s ALSO landed at this time.

I would “assume” (this is my military background speaking) that ALL 3 Senior Officers (CO, 2i/c and OC “C” Squadron) would have most likely been assigned to DIFFERENT Landing Craft......in case 1 or 2 or them were wounded or KIA........so if we can figure out “which” LCT Major Marks was on, I would ASSUME that Major White (and Holy Roller) were on the “remaining LCT”

This would be my best suggestion to figuring out which LCT “Holy Roller” was on.

I’ve looked all thru the War Diaries, and I can’t see anything that confirms this.......let me check a bit more to see if I can figure this out

OK guys, I’m am NOT a “sailor guy”......so first I had to figure out what the heck a “trot” was........and it turns out it a method of anchoring a “whole bunch” of boats on ONE line. Here’s the explanation;

So now WHERE were “D Trot” and “E Trot”???? I haven’t been able to figure that out yet. I do know their were area’s in on the berthing map that is marked “LCT Mooring”......so I suspect this is where the “trot lines” were.....but WHICH are was it.....must have to do with the “Letters D or E”

Still searching
