400 Squadron, RCAF

Flt. Lt. L. McMillan (DFC, AM), RCAF, J/10231, Miami, Manitoba, Canada
Spitfire PR XI, PM412, May 3, 1945

While flying the No. 2 man position on a shipping reconnaissance mission of the Danish Islands, a convoy of 4 ships were spotted, so the flight went down to investigate, as the aircraft passed on the port side they notice the ships flying the Nazi flags, 3 of which were carrying troops. On the second pass, flying at 50 feet, on the starboard side of the ships, Flt. Lt. McMillan's aircraft took a direct hit from one of the ships and exploded. Lead Pilot, Flt Lt. P.C. Wigle believes that Flt. Lt. McMillan was killed outright in the explosion.

While on loan to R.A.F. No. 225 Squadron, F/O Lochnan was on an Air/Sea rescue sortie when his aircraft struck a hill 1,000 yards north of R.A.F. Pembrey, South Wales. F/O Lochnan did not survive the crash. There is no info given about the second crew member.

Flt. Lt. W.W. Kennedy, RCAF, J/9434, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Spitfire PR XI, PL925, October 28, 1944

While on a Reconnaissance mission to Muenster, Germany his aircraft was shot down by a Me-262 jet fighter and crashed near the former community of Steenderen, Netherlands. Flt. Lt. Kennedy did not survive the crash.

Note: There is also a story going that it was Anti-Aircraft fire that shot him down.

Mustang I, AP191 / O, January 3, 1944

F/O Jessiman was killed when his aircraft was shot down at Caen, France during a cross-channel sweep.

Mustang I, AG577 / F, September 28, 1943

Aircraft was carrying out a Rhubarb mission over Paris, France when his Mustang was hit by flak. The aircraft went into a steep descent and exploded on impact. Flt. Lt. Grant did not survive.

Mustang I, AM256, June 2, 1943

F/O Clarke was engaged in Rhubarb Operations while in a Mustang over the Cabouty - Tisieux area of France, due to enemy action, the aircraft crashed at Epinay, France. F/O Clarke did not survive the crash.

While on a reconnaissance mission, aircraft loss has not been established, P/O Burlingam's body washed up on the shore near Koxide in Belgium and he is buried Coxyde Military Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

F/O Parsons was Killed in Action when his aircraft failed to return from an intruder patrol over France.

Sgt. McMurdo was killed by bomb explosion during enemy attack on Kidbrooke, London, England

LAC Ford was killed by accidental gunshot wound

While flying Spitfire PL829, the aircraft erupted into flames, causing the aircraft to crash near R.A.F. Station Odiham, Hampshire, England. F/O McKiggan did not survive.
