Hi!

do you have other, later rolls? where are they on heritage Canada? It is a bit of a jungle to search!

Is there a war diary for the 4th LAA? Or the batteries?

best,

Niels

Niels, the above Nominal Rolls are from the Directorate of Movement files……these are files on ships that sailed from North America to UK (and return). In these files are names of every person who was on the ship on the date it sailed. The names include “nominal rolls” (like the one above) of Entire units that were being shipped to England. They also include nominal rolls of individual reinforcement platoons or companies of the same unit that may have left later (on other ships).

These files are VERY HARD to research, as their is NO SEARCH ENGINE on the files with Heritage Canadiana………so this means that each ship has to be searched PAGE BY PAGE……and their can be THOUSANDS of pages for one ships sailing…….

What I have posted on this site, is the files that I have found while doing a “page by page” search of ships…….and I’ve only scratched the surface…..I have now researched 100’s of ships…….but their are literally “thousands’ of ship sailing to research……..so this is a long term project, which I work “off and on” ……..to give myself a break between these long searches.

I DO NOT copy every name on the file…….just large units (Like the 4th LAA Regt above)………so if you are searching for an individual that sailed on a Convoy to England (or back)…….the only way to find him/her is if you know APPROX the dates they sailed (from their service records)…….I can then find out which ships sailed on this date…….and search the files of each “possible ship” ……..again, this takes a LOT of time and effort. BUT I have done this before for people that need help.

In respect to other nominal rolls………of course the military is “anal” when it come to records. Their WILL BE more nominal rolls on the files of all Units in the Canadian Army…….but these files have NOT been digitized (as of yet) and the only way to see this information to to physically go the LAC Ottawa and order the records and see them “on site”. So their ARE more nominal rolls……but their access is the issue……..being its limited

Let me know if you have further questions or need specific help??

Cheers

Temujin
