Very interesting find, I'll see if any of this rings true for Dave.

Roger, I’ll wait to see if this is a possibility before trying to research more clues or information

Cheers

found a Photo of the ENTIRE 12th DIVISION, including the Signals Battalion........so he must be in this photo.......BUT good luck (I’m just joking, but he probably is in this photo)

By the way, I’ve NEVER seen a photo of an ENTIRE DIVISION before

Got your teeth sunk in, I know how that is. Crikey what a photo! Folks are trying to ascertain if there's a genealogical connection to the fellow you've found. I'll keep this thread up to date, no confirmation yet, but some more info from Dave.
I'm not sure if he was a Hatchard or a Holmes from my Grans family who emigrated to Canada, my Gran stayed in the UK but her sisters emigrated, don't know if they had a brother, they were orphans I am told, My Gran was Ada born 1896 Walthamstow London died 1976.
And more detail in regards to the family tree.
David Hatchard (Married Ada Holmes, Father of David William Hatchard)
B: 1900, Corfe Castle, Dorset
D: 1980

Ada (Holmes) Hatchard (Married David Hatchard, Mother of David William Hatchard)
B: 1896, Walthamstow, London
D: 1976

David William Hatchard
B: 1930
D: 1977
The photo was found in a box of David William Hatchard's old photos. So if this Corporal George F. Hatchard is related he would be either David Hatchard's brother or cousin. Since the ancestry sites don't show a David among George's siblings that would indicate either cousin, or unrelated.

On the enlistment card it states,
Born in New York NY 20 9/12 yrs
Does that mean 20 years and 9 months old?

Thank you......I’ll do more research on the above and report back

Dave (a lot of Davids in this family) who has found the photo has to find and go through his folder of family related information to see if he can draw a connection. It may take some time before he can confirm or eliminate this fellow. Also this info.
All my Hatchard ancestors are from Church Knowle or Corfe castle Dorset, that I know of so far

Hmmmm, good question. If I found the right “Census”, it reports his birth was “July 1899”......so that would make him 19 plus years old.......

I think the “20 9/12 yrs” means possible “20 years and the “9th month” which would be Sept”.....but I’m only guessing on this.

In Canadian census, they use this type of nomenclature when giving the birthdates of “babies” eg 3/12 years old

But let me check further

OK, tried the “Holmes” side to see if I could find someone. I found a Ralph Holmes, who was with the 311th Field Signal Battalion. Here’s the documents that I found so far. I have not researched this family yet, but thought I’d post what I found so far
