Texas Brothers go to Canada

Post by georgetanksherman » Tue Aug 14, 2018 5:08 pm

Two brothers from Brownsville, Texas. Christopher Edgar Wyon Rogers and William George Rogers crossed over into Canada to join in the fight that was raging on over in Europe during World War 1. They were assigned to the 16th Battalion Canadian infantry, Manitoba Regiment. It was suggested to them that they might want to separate into other units, should something unfortunate happen, they both refused to separate.

On October 9, 1916, assigned to the Highland Battalion in the trenches of France, they were killed in the second battle that they were engaged in.

During the battle, one brother was wounded and made his way to a shell hole, the other brother saw what had happened and made his way to the shell hole to render first-aid. as he was helping his brother, another shell exploded killing both brothers.

Both brothers are commemorated on the Vimy Memorial located at Pas-de-Calais, France. Many Warriors fell during the battle of Vimy Ridge, The Vimy Memorial commemorates the 11,000 Fallen Warriors that have no known graves.

Lest We Forget … May they Always be Remembered !
