UNPROFOR Intelligence Reports

Post by BFBSM » Wed Dec 15, 2021 9:22 pm

Anyone interested in the Cold War world, the wars in the former Yugoslavia, UNPROFOR (United Nations PROtection FORce) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro) and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, or Peacekeeping should consider looking at the documents available at the link below.

These briefing books include eight (8) volumes of records declassified by Library and Archives Canada. The file series is titled "Military Actions - Peacekeeping - Special Forces - United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) Intelligence Reports."
UNPROFOR (United Nations Protection Force) was a United Nations peacekeeping force deployed in parts of the former Yugoslavia from 1992 to 1995. Information about Canadian participation in UNPROFOR is available here.

These volumes contain intelligence summaries sent from National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ) to Canadian units in theatre, as well as to various Canadian commands, other government departments, and allies.

The volumes are organized by date range (as indicated) but the reports within each volume are in reverse chronological order. For instance, the report at the beginning of Volume 1 is dated September 1993 and the report at the end of Volume 1 is dated August 1993.

Please note these are large files. They might not 'preview' successfully and it might be easier to download them rather than try to read them in a browser.

Canada Declassified is grateful to Dr. Andrew Burtch for sharing these records.
