Trying to see if I can get further info on Rifleman Randolph Hartman Harvin, A/108341, was with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, Canadian Infantry Corps. Born Sumpter, South Carolina, U.S.A., he tried to enlist in the U.S. Army but was refused enlistment due to an enlarged heart, so he enlisted in the Canadian Army while in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A., unfortunately he was Killed in France on Tuesday, August 1, 1944. Buried at Bretteville-sur-Laize, France Canadian War Cemetery. I know it is a long shot, but thought I would try, appreciate any additional info that can be found !

RWR went into reserve 30 Jul and it was apparently very quiet.

Who buys into the theory that his unit is incorrectly identified, he was a Calgary Highlander? They attacked Tilly la Campagne early morning of July 31. He didn't make it back (briefly noted Missing), found and confirmed KIA Aug 1?

Edited to add:
Original burial at MR 062612, which is between Tilly and Hubert Folie. Winnipegs were back across the Orne at Colomby.

Thank You Klambie, the forms that Tamujin attached, it does not have a number that I can see, but the form that is above his Occupational History form, states something about him on July 27th about Calgary Highlanders, and he was Killed in Action the next day on the 28th of July, and then another entry saying he was killed on August 1st. I appreciate everyone's help with this one. And I know Army Casualties are the hardest to find specifics on, but every once in a while you get lucky and find out what happened

Is it possible that he was still a member of the Winnipeg Rifles, but was sent to help the Calgary Highlanders due to casualties ?

Cheers Everyone !

George, here’s the page in his records that “tell the story”

You can see when he arrived in Cngland, he joined the 2nd Canadian Infantry Reinforcement Unit. Basically these units “held” men that were reinforcements to front line units. When a Front Line unit had casualties, the CIRU would then send up men to them. IN BLUE BOX

Then, he joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles (you see his rank changes to Rifleman) IN GREEN BOX - NOTE RECORDS ARE NOT IN ORDER IN THIS PART

And finally, just before he was killed, he joins the Calgary Highlanders - IN RED BOX

It is Possible that he may have been “assigned” to the Calgary Highlanders, and didn’t actually “join” (Physically) the unit yet, and was killed BEFORE he “physically” arrived.

I would have to see if we can find other records on this. The records are a bit confusing here, so more research would be needed
