Flt Off Robert Joseph Sarvis

Flt Off Robert Joseph Sarvis, originally from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. joined the U.S.A.A.F. while in Tennessee, U.S.A., after training was sent to the United Kingdom and assigned to the 12th Replacement Depot, from there was assigned to the Royal Air Force No. 576 Squadron. While flying Avro Lancaster PB265 UL-V2 on mission to Stuttgart, Germany the aircraft was damaged by a German night fighter, because of the damage Flt. Officer Sarvis decided to head toward Normandy and the Allied Line to seek refuge. Unfortunately the aircraft was shot at and severely damaged further by U.S. Anti-Aircraft Units. F/O Sarvis stayed with the aircraft as the rest of the crew escaped the stricken aircraft in which they all survived. The aircraft crashed near Liesville, France with F/O Sarvis still in the aircraft. Flt Off Robert Joseph Sarvis is buried at the Normandy American Cemetery located St. Laurent-sur-Mer, France. May this Fallen Warrior always be Remembered !
