Daniel Norton Brennan, RCAF ???

Post by georgetanksherman » Sat Jun 24, 2023 1:41 am

Greetings, hope everyone is well!

Looking for info on Daniel Norton Brannen, shows that he came to Canada, completed training and was sent to England where he was assigned to R.A.F. No.10 Squadron, from there he transferred over to USAAF. He died on March 5, 2002 in Riverside, California.

Any and all help will truly be appreciated !

George

George, I want to add some personnel info on the above……..when I saw his name Daniel NORTON Brennan and where he was born, Devils Lake ND, and his mother’s maiden name was NORTON, hence where he gets his middle name, and I was surprise………..and here is why.

My grandmother, her last name was NORTON and she also was born in Devils Lake ND……….so of course I thought, could their be a connection???

My grandmother (and her Father and family) emigrated to Canada in the early 1900’s from North Dakota……..all of my family (both sides) were from the US, During that time, Canada was offering Homesteads for $5.00 for a 1/4 section of land, you had to work it for 3 years, and build a “permanent structure” on it (usually a Sod House) and the land was yours. So thousands of American’s came up to Alberta and Sask etc to homestead.

Of course, I want to check to see if their is indeed any connection, I haven’t found any yet, but I’m going to follow up on this.

My grandmothers side of the family arrived in the US in the early 1600’s………and moved westward slowly. One of my great uncles, has the name of Norton, Kansas named after him. He was a Captain in the US Calvary during the Civil War and was captured by Southern ‘bushwackers”, and he and his young Lieutenant we hung by them.

Anyway, I’ll see if I can find any connection and if I do post it up here.

Cheers

Wow, what are the chances, that would be wild, if it came out that there is a connection! That sure would be a GREAT story to be able to pass on. Appreciate the info, on both the gentleman you have given details on, it is awesome to hear the stories come out on these brave young lads. Not sure in today's world that we would have many with their character?

Thankyou for the help!

George
