Lavar Halle Richardson, RCAF

Post by georgetanksherman » Sun Jun 19, 2022 5:12 pm

Happy Father's Day to all you Fathers out there !

I have another one for someone that might be in the know :-) Lavar Halle Richardson, from Brigham City, Utah, Obit said prior to U.S.A. joining in WW II, he and a friend (Unknown) crossed the border to join the RCAF, that is where the dilemma starts, his obit states that he completed training and was sent to England and flew Spitfires, but it also stated that he was sent to England to ferry planes and celebrities such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, Betty Grable and John Steinbeck. He transferred into the Army Air Forces, I did find info that he was assigned to 311 ATS/ 27 ATG, flying Transport B-17 Acft, sadly this Warrior passed April 15, 1997.

If anyone can shed light on where he served in the RCAF or RAF in England I would appreciate it !

Cheers

George

Temujin, Thanks a lot, the last part that you put on helps, still cannot find where the Spitfire comes into play, and what I am thinking is that since he was assigned toto a USAAF Transport Squadron that there is where he did all the VIP shuffling these people around.

Thank You as always for the help !

Cheers

George

P.S., so far I have come across 228 Texans that crossed the border !

Yes, I’m confused on that one, as his Flying Training at No 7 Fort McLeod was on multi-engine aircraft (Avro Anson) which is given to Pilots in the ‘Bomber Stream”. Usually Pilots doing the “Fighter Stream” flying in Harvards.

And the bio above (when he transfers to US Forces” say he never did any Operational Missions with the RCAF.
