Re: Hi all!

Random related thoughts: I'm only at the archives every 2-3 months on average. if you want something done soon or you have a big job I might not be able to help. On the other hand, helping people out exposes you to new material and information - and I also just like helping people out. I wouldn't ha...

Re: Hi all!

Maybe I'd better check with him about what the union rate is :D Kidding aside, I have not in the past charged anyone. Mostly I've been exchanging document photographs with folks in the UK who obviously don't have easy access to LAC. Getting institutions to copy stuff, on the other hand, can get a bi...

Hi all!

Glad to be here on the forums! My interests are mostly the WW2 land war, the North African, Italian, and NWE theatres. I am a beginner-level scale modeller but not really improving as other hobbies including research and writing are taking more of my time. I am hoping to write a book about the Arche...

Re: What are you reading? WWII

I am currently taking a second crack at The Battle of Arnhem (Cornelis Bauer). The reason I stopped reading it the first time is I find I get angry reading about disasters. For reading at home, I have also started Canada's Pride: The Ram Tank and Its Variants by Roger Lucy. It's pretty amazing, just...

Re: 2nd Canadian AT Reg't and D Company RHLI, February 20 1945

Thank you!! As my initial post indicates, sometimes I post a little early. I might have found the citation stuff on the RHLI website. But Temujin's finding helped spur a lot more digging :) (Sorry T, I know we exchanged messages and I ought to remember your first name, but my memory is not the best!)

Re: 2nd Canadian AT Reg't and D Company RHLI, February 20 1945

Also, another member of the RCA was commended for the action that day in support of the RHLI. This seems to give even more context although it says 6:30pm. http://www.rhli.ca/honourslist/drewry.html "On 20 February 1945, Major Drewry was acting as the Artillery Representative of his Commanding Offic...

P.S. after the war, Heaps became a human rights advocate. Obit here: https://www.nytimes.com/2000/06/17/worl ... ocate.html

Re: 2nd Canadian AT Reg't and D Company RHLI, February 20 1945

Ok so apparently the officer was Lt David Heaps . David Heaps was one of two brothers who both received the MC, the other being his brother Leo. They were Jewish and sons of a policitian, Abraham Heaps. David was born in 1916 and was working as a journalist before enlisting in 1942. The site says th...

Re: 2nd Canadian AT Reg't and D Company RHLI, February 20 1945

That helps flesh it out a little bit - the war diary also describes the action with the Essex Scots - BUT knowing that someone was awarded a medal is enormously helpful as I may be able to track down the description of events in the submission for the award. Thank you, that is VERY helpful :)
