The bridge was named after Lieutenant Holland who was killed while handling an S-mine.

2HAA had an RCASC platoon attached for ammunition transport. Here are a few pages from the 2HAA history. The other 2 pages were included in an old newsletter of the 8th Battery veterans association. No mention of your grandfather as far as I can see.

849 is definately the unit sign of 45 GT company RCASC. As confirmed in Malcolm A. Bellis' 21 Army Group Organisation & Markings. This unit stayed in our town from December 1944 till March 1945. Since he was attached to 2 HAA Regt as a driver I would think he went overseas with them in the same convoy.
