Juno75 Recommendations

Hi All, I am going to the Juno75 ceremony in Normandy this June (registered). I wasn't sure where to post this - and hopefully this isn't discussed elsewhere, but I am hoping someone might have some general recommendations that might be helpful. I'm going alone and planning from scratch... I've also...

Re: 13th Field, RCA - Locations of Interest in Holland and Germany

Phil these are great leads. Thanks for sharing! My grandfather has/had a hard copy of the book and showed others / family members. Unfortunately, no one has any idea where the book is now! Have gone through his whole library (10x over) and am empty handed. I've emailed some researchers at the Univer...

Re: 13th Field, RCA - Locations of Interest in Holland and Germany

Fantastic. Thanks for the advice Phil! I'll reach out to them now. Regarding the picture... Multiple family members have allegedly seen a photograph of my grandfather liberating a town in the Netherlands. He's on the lead vehicle (no details provided on type - I have heard both jeep or sherman tank)...

13th Field, RCA - Locations of Interest in Holland and Germany

Hi Al! I am visiting Holland/Germany this week and am hoping to solicit input on important things to see while there related to the 13th Field, Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA) and my grandfather (Lt. Col. E. A. Olmsted - who was a Capt./Major with the Regiment). I’ve identified the following things o...

Gnr. DONALD MCDONALD & L/Bdr. ALF HERBERT JOSEPHSON - 13 Field, RCA

Hi All, Seeking your help on locating information regarding the following soldiers KIA during WWII. I originally posted some materials on my website: https://www.uncoveringvalour.com/blog/ This is what I have been able to locate so far: M/59315: Gunner DONALD MCDONALD (Age 21 —- HOLTEN CANADIAN WAR ...

Re: Commissioning a Military Portrait - WWII Veteran

Thanks all. This is all great information - really appreciate the insights. I think I've got plenty of information to go off of now so I will post further questions if the portrait artist indicates more information would be helpful. I paid to have the original photo colourized and the results are qu...

Re: Commissioning a Military Portrait - WWII Veteran

Fantastic. The timeline for this project is going to be about 4-5mo.

That’s great to know about the photo colourization initiative... I actually had a separate question on doing that so it’s definitely something I will follow up on!

Commissioning a Military Portrait - WWII Veteran

Hi All, I am commissioning a military portrait on my grandfather (Earl A. Olmsted) - a WWII veteran (see other post in this section for reference). I have hired an experienced portrait artist but I am seeking some advice to help guide her. She is not a military portrait artist, but she has done them...

Re: Famous James Military Lightweight (ML) Motorcycle "Clockwork Mouse"

Wanted to ask a follow up question related to this. Specifically regarding what motorcycle couriers / liaisons would typically wear in WWII. In a separate thread I spoke about how my grandfather was with General Keller on D-Day and was ordered forward on motorcycle to connect with 7th Brigade (led b...
