Thank you both for your posts, very helpful. I can explain the missing Frankfurt operation, it was on the 2nd December 1942 and the crew aborted the mission as the port inner engine became unserviceable, bombs were jettisoned safe in the sea and they safely returned to base on 3 engines. Does any one have any information on this gentleman: J/16535 Percy Edwin Spence DFC RCAF He flew as a pilot with No. 78 Squadron, 4 Group from September 1942 until March 1943. Does anyone have any information on the above airman, who flew as an Air Gunner with 78 Squadron, 4 Group from October 1944 to April 1945. He was commissioned as J/93475.

Great work and some great pictures, its a shame about the quality of the original newspaper photo as their is a 78 Squadron chap in it Squadron Leader Robert Irwin Trickett DFC who flew with both 78 and 35 Squadrons and remained in the RCAF after the war.

George,

another one found today Major Donald Blakeslee USAAF former RCAF fighter pilot from Fairport Ohio. There is a picture of him in the Leader Post, Saskatchewan Canada 17 Aug 1943.

do you have Flt CM Howes RCAF Pilot on your list? He was born in Kent England but at the age of 4 he emigrated to the USA with his parents and remained there until he crossed the border to enlist. He lived at Stamford, Conn and completed all of his schooling their.

Here is another one which I have come across during my research:

Flight Sergeant William Sorg RCAF a pilot from Westmount Ave, Pittsburg, PA.

He was flying in an Anson from 1 GRS which ditched in the sea and had a chap who went on to serve with 78 Squadron.
